How often should my dog be groomed?

Maintaining healthy skin and coat is fundamental to your dogs overall well being. I recommend dogs of most breeds and coat types to be bathed every 3-4 weeks. The lifecycle of the skin cells is 21 days, a regular bathing schedule will keep the skin clean from sebum, debris, dead skin, allergens, bacteria, yeast etc. If you have a long coat dog who needs a full haircut, a 4-8 week grooming schedule is recommended depending on the haircut. For example, if you prefer your dog to have a longer haircut you would come in every 4-6weeks. However if you like a shorter style, you could go closer to 8 weeks.

Can I stay with my dog during their groom?

For insurance and liability reasons, I cannot allow pet parents to stay during the groom. I am happy to provide updates during the service.

What is a hematoma?

A hematoma is a possible outcome after removing tight matting, commonly on the tips of the ears. When matts get very very tight they can eventually restrict blood flow to the capillaries (tiny blood vessels closest to the surface of the skin). When the matting is removed, the blood can then flow back to restricted areas, causing a "pins and needles" kind of sensation. This new feeling can often cause dogs to shake their heads excessively which rushes blood to tips of the ears, with nowhere to go the blood may seep through the blood vessel walls and through the skin OR get stuck under the skin making a bubble that may burst open with blood.

How can I prevent my dog from getting a hematoma?

The easiest way to prevent a hematoma is to keep your dogs coat from becoming matted. Brushing at home using a slicker brush, brushing spray and using a comb to check over your brushing. Using a brushing technique called "line brushing" will make sure you are brushing down to the root on the fur, and not just the top bit of fluff. If at home brushing is not an option for you, going with a shorter ear style may be easier to maintain. I also recommend bringing your dog in for a Bath or Tidy Up between grooms to maintain the skin and coat.

How long will my dogs grooming appointment be?

Each dog has their own unique needs and personalities, which can cause appointment lengths to vary. Every day is different and I believe it takes the time it takes to work with a dog, however, an average range is 1.5-3 hours. I will give an estimated time frame at the start of the appointment. I will send a 15 minute warning when your dog will be ready.

Are you insured?

Yes I am! My business is insured and registered with the city.  As an unregulated industry, this is so important! Any groomer you bring your pet to should have insurance.

Why do I need to put credit card information when booking online?

Accepted Answer

Having a credit card on file is to process any fees from no show or late cancelations. This is the only time your credit card will be automatically charged. You may also choose to use the card on file as the method payment at the completion of your service.
